The Modern would like to thank all the Modern Resolutionists who participated in the Modern Resolutions event in December. The fire dancers, personal trainers, Radio Boise, and the Record Exchange all made this an evening to remember And I must say, Edward’s Greenhouse knocked our socks off with their bed of flowers.
The Boise Sesqui-Shop, a shop put together to help celebrate Boise’s 150th birthday, made a fun presentation, too. If you haven’t had the chance, I suggest that you scurry down to have a peek at their shop on 10th and Main Street. http://www.facebook.com/BoiseArtsandHistory/app_100265896690345

Modern Resolutions – December 28 and 29
On the nights of December 28 and 29, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Boise vendors and nonprofits will come together at the Modern, dedicated to creating change – and we’re not talking about nickels and dimes. Instead, organizations like Boise 150, Sustainable Futures, Bricolage, The Record Exchange, Hyde Park Books, and the Cabin Literary Center will be setting up pop-up shops in our rooms. This is your chance to grab a drink and peruse these mini-boutiques, some of which could inspire you to be a better person: more fit, more literary, or maybe – with the help of personal trainer, Renu Medispa and Graeber & Company Salon – much hotter.
And yes, you can do this all while balancing a beautiful cocktail created by master mixologists and bow tie-wearing bearded gentlefolk here at the Modern Hotel Bar. Giddy up!
Modern Resolutions is our way of creating fun, even when we can’t check in guests. (Our rooms will be closed for renovations from December 27-30. We’ll reroof, build valances, paint walls, and install new carpet.)
At the Modern, we’re pretty good at coming up with cocktails. Naming them…not so much. So we are holding a contest. Most cocktail naming contests begin with the cocktail, ours begins with the name. We’re up for a challenge. You give us the name; we’ll craft cocktails inspired by our favorites.
Winners will receive a $15.00 gift card and have their drinks added to the The Modern Hotel & Bar’s menu. This contest will be open until we announce the winners on our website www.themodernhotel.com/blog and our social media sites.
1. There is no limit to the number of names a participant can submit. We’ll choose as
many names as we like using completely subjective criteria.
2. Names that are impolite or political in nature will not be considered. Literal titles such
as “The Whiskey _________” or punny names are unlikely to be chosen, but you may
3. Contestants must be 21 years of age. By submitting your entry, you authorize The
Modern Hotel & Bar to use your drink name in all print & online publications.

Relax, this year we have your back. Or your belly.
The Boise Fry Company, Archie’s Place and B-29 Streatery’s Food Trucks will be
waiting to serve you delicious fare All Night Long! Stationed along Grove Street right in front of the Modern Hotel and open from 4-11p.m., now you won’t have to choose between viewing the next Artist’s creative Room and fainting from lack of Chili Cheese Fries.

For Modern Art 2010, artists Bill Lewis and Kirsten Furlong collaborated in Room 117. Using the work of the German performance/installation artist, sculptor and art theorist Joseph Beuys as inspiration, Lewis and Furlong spent the whole of Modern Art within their room in a tableau vivant. Take a look at the photos below and marvel at the dramatic incidental scene that they were able to create! Then be sure not to miss Modern Art 2012 at the Modern Hotel on May 3rd.
