Again this year we are blessed with the Treefort Music Festival. Great bands migrate north from the warmth of Austin, Texas and will breeze into town to warm up our city March 20-24.
If you didn’t go last year, I’ll offer some words of wisdom–or what I’m proclaiming to be wisdom. Go to Treefort, indulge yourself. Attending Treefort is like being the first one down the mountain after a fresh snowfall. It’s like being the first water skier on a glassy lake, carving beautiful rooster tails. It is primo. The indie music festival South by Southwest is an aging monster, now in its twenty seventh year. Boise’s own Treefort is your chance to catch a festival in its youth. My advice: be at Treefort when it’s young, instead of looking back and wishing you were there at the beginning. The Modern Hotel still has a few rooms in the belly of the beast, the heart of the action, the hub, baby! Call the Modern Hotel for details.

39 Rooms Film Festival Call for Short Film Entries
Idaho, November 25, 2013 – The Modern Hotel in conjunction with the Sun Valley Film Festival, is pleased to issue a Call For Entries to filmmakers for our First Annual 39 Rooms Film Exhibition.
The exhibition gives filmmakers the opportunity to exhibit their films in each of the 39 rooms of the Modern Hotel for up to a year. The short film program will run on a continuous loop on a dedicated channel in each of the 39 rooms.
In the spirit of other annual events like Modern Art, Treefort and the Modern Courtyard Music Series, 39 Rooms expands our mission to provide a creative venue for artists, musicians and filmmakers. 39 Rooms exhibition encourages artists to show their work, offering greater exposure for filmmakers in a public sphere.
Hotel guests can enjoy the films at their leisure when staying at the Hotel. Interested guests can comment on the films, choose their favorites and contact the filmmakers for copies. The Modern Hotel will inform our guests about the films playing in the rooms and provide information on the films and filmmakers.
Dang gina, this year stresses me out. I’m ambivalent about snow and cold. But this just isn’t right. NO SNOW. And it didn’t come until well after Elvis’s birthday on the 8 of January. I hate it. It makes me sad and anxious. It dominates my conversations. “I really wish it would snow” I’d say to a guest, and they’d say, “Do you usually get a lot of snow in Boise?” I blather back about how we get a little snow in the Treasure Valley, but it usually goes away fast and stays in the mountains. Others would pop into the conversation and digress into a “I remember back in 82” kind of competition.
But now the snow is here. Yeah! Snow, snow, snow! The lifts are running and I’m in the mood to eat chef Davids’ wonderful soup and rejoice! Then follow it up with delicious warming beverage in the Modern Bar.
Now finally our guests can enjoy the Stay and Play package to their heart’s content. And what’s more we’ll make the deal sweeter!
If you participate in the Stay and Play promotion your rate for a queen room is $80 and $90 for a king or a room with 2 queen beds. All rooms are based on double occupancy and subject to availability.
Here’s the scpop on the ski package:

- One lift ticket voucher per guest, per night of stay in Boise.
- Lift tickets valid during time of stay only.
