“It’s not denial. I’m just selective about the reality I accept”-Bill Watterson
“Hope is the denial of reality”-Margaret Weis
“Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt”-Mark Twain
Local artist Troy Passey, after participating in every Modern Art since its inception, missed the announcement that last year would be the final year of the event. Mr. Passey went ahead and booked his old room at the Modern Hotel and plans to show his work as he has for the past nine years.
It may be Troy’s aversion to odd numbers, his cluelessness, stubbornness, or just plain cussedness, but Passey is obviously in denial about the realities of Modern Art. Taking pity on the poor man, we did not feel we could deny his quest to complete ten years. So, as we are unable to say no to such a great artist and friend, and wishing to spare him the embarrassment, The Modern will welcome Troy back to show his work called, appropriately, “Denial”
We are confident that even in his current state of denial, Mr. Passey will exhibit both beautiful works and his slightly off demeanor.
Come join him for an evening of wonderful art as well as the unveiling of his hotel exterior piece, which will remain up for the coming year on the “infinite scroll.”
Please don’t mention that he missed the memo. It’s possible he still doesn’t know.
