Sun, Oct 15 at 2:30pm
From the electrifying overture to Cherubino’s enchanting serenade, ‘Tell me what love is’ (‘Voi che sapete’), The Marriage of Figaro overflows with an array of unforgettable melodies. Many of these tunes have earned their place among the most renowned and easily hummable pieces in the classical music canon. The orchestration is marked by its inventive arrangements, and the ensemble writing displays a high level of sophistication. Each scene is painted with a vivid imagination.
In 2017, BBC News Magazine asked 172 opera singers to vote for the best operas ever written. The Marriage of Figaro came in first out of the 20 operas featured, with the magazine describing the work as being “one of the supreme masterpieces of operatic comedy, whose rich sense of humanity shines out of Mozart’s miraculous score.”
