SUMMER 2015 LINEUP Join us on our patio from 8:00 - 10:00 PM JUN 08 Judith Steele (fiction) Matthew Cameron Clark & Dwayne Blackaller (actors and playwrites) Judith McConnell Steele will read from her novel, The Angel of Esperanҫa, and discuss her process of writing the book. Steele lived in northeast Brazil for a number of years as a Peace Corps volunteer, translator and journalist for Project Hope and volunteer with Amigos de las Americas. Several years after her last stay in Brazil, she began writing Angel.The book opens with a woman shut in a tower and then explores the growing catastrophe that put her there. "After a few months in my small Peace Corps village, I realized that, in some strange way, I had come home," Steele says. "The sometimes lush, often hard countryside and passionate people of northeast Brazil took hold of me. I came home with many vivid memories. One of those memories became the seed for Angel." The Angel of Esperanҫa, was given three first-place awards - for best fiction, best cover design and best interior design - in the 2013 Idaho Book Awards. The novel recently received a second place award for fiction in the international North American Book Awards. JUL 13 Joel Wayne (fiction) Joel Wayne is a writer living in Boise, Idaho. His articles, fiction, nonfiction, and other works have appeared in AdPulp, apt, Glassworks, The Moth, Salon, Story Story Night and the Sun Valley Film Festival. He also recently received the 2015 Lamar York Prize for Fiction from The Chattahoochee Review.
