As the days get shorter and we start our slow descent into fall, Indian Creek Winery in Kuna offers a last chance to soak up a sunny summer vibe at the Hermit Music Festival, August 30th through September 3rd.

This local celebration of live acoustic music begins with a Friday night dance in the Mardi Gras ballroom in Boise. Everything else (food trucks, craft wine and beer, local artisans, performances on two stages plus workshops) happens Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at Indian Creek.

Though truly rooted in the Treasure Valley, Hermit Music Festival actually draws performers from all over the region and the country; the Modern is honored to provide lodging for some of them, who will sing for their supper, so to speak, at the Modern’s brunch on September 1st and 2nd: Jenny Parrot on Saturday, and The Sons of Rainier on Sunday.

Ava Honey, one of the festival organizers, talked about her vision for this event. “Travis [Ward] and I got together one day and decided how great it would be to have an acoustic music festival here in the valley. We both had similar visions: The music would be from local sources as well as regional acts covering genres of the blues, country, bluegrass, old time, and singer-songwriter. It’s a community event, from the volunteers to the musicians, from the artists to the participants. We love this music, we love this community and this is our way of giving back and contributing. Listen to live music. Be alive.” Couldn’t say it better ourselves.
